The AI team is concentrating all its efforts to ensure that the Abilities API is ready in time for the WordPress 6.9 beta, scheduled for October 21. They have extended internal deadlines to complete critical reviews and merges without compromising stability.
The priority is to ensure that essential functions, such as registering and retrieving abilities, are ready, while secondary features like filtering are postponed to avoid unnecessary complexity. It was also highlighted that the GatherPress plugin already uses the API with eleven implemented abilities, demonstrating its maturity and real applicability within the WordPress ecosystem.
